New Windows 11 Copilot Features and Power Automate Integration (Insider Exclusive)

I’m always on the lookout for innovative solutions to enhance productivity and streamline workflows. While I’m generally cautious about relying solely on AI assistants, Microsoft’s newest Windows 11 Copilot updates for Windows 11 Insiders on the Canary Channel have piqued my interest. These enhancements promise to provide greater control over settings, automate tasks, and even integrate accessibility features. Let’s delve into the details and see if they live up to the hype.

What is Windows 11 Copilot?

Windows 11 Copilot is an AI assistant built directly into the operating system. Think of it as your digital co-pilot, using the power of large language models to answer questions, generate different creative text formats, and even help you get things done within Windows itself.

Expanded Functionality and Settings Control

Historically, tweaking certain settings in Windows still required digging through menus or using keyboard shortcuts. Now, I can simply ask Copilot to execute many of these tasks on my behalf. Commands like turning on Narrator, starting Live Captions, toggling battery saver, or emptying the recycle bin have become conversational. This saves time and lets me focus on the bigger picture.

To discover even more capabilities, try typing “What can you do?” into the Copilot chat window for a detailed list.

The Power of Automation

Perhaps the most groundbreaking update is the integration of Power Automate into Copilot for Windows 11. Power Automate, a low-code automation tool within the Microsoft Power Platform, unlocks incredible potential for IT professionals and users alike. I can now use Copilot to create custom flows that streamline tasks, saving me from repetitive work. This update is currently limited to Microsoft Account logins, something to be mindful of.

Here are just a few examples of what I’ve been automating using Power Automate within Copilot:

  • Email Drafting: Quickly writing emails like a “Happy Weekend” blast to my team.
  • Data Manipulation: Generating an Excel list of the biggest social media platforms.
  • PDF and File Management: Renaming and moving PDFs and Word documents.

Microsoft welcomes your feedback on the Power Automate plugin (powerautomate-ai@microsoft.com) – don’t hesitate to suggest scenarios for them to improve!

Important Note

Windows 11 Copilot updates are rolling out gradually to Canary Channel Insiders. If you’re not seeing them yet, be patient! Microsoft is also requesting feedback on these features via the Feedback Hub (Win + F) under Desktop Environment > Copilot in Windows.

Conclusion

Microsoft’s commitment to intelligent user experiences in Windows 11 is undeniable. These Copilot updates go beyond basic AI assistance, transforming it into a productivity powerhouse. I believe Copilot and Power Automate together will fundamentally reshape how I, and ultimately all users, interact with Windows. If you’re an Insider on the Canary Channel, start experimenting!
